Hicksville Physical Therapy’s state-of-the-art technology continues to be second to none. We are glad to offer our 3D spinal decompression unit. Our decompression unit stands out from its competition due to a unique feature that is designed to accommodate for proper and precise decompression at targeted discs by controlling multiple planes of axial decompression simultaneously. For example, an individual who has an L4-5 disc herniation with compression of the L5 nerve root will be decompressed at the proper flexion, axial rotation, and lateral flexion angles in order to open up the intervertebral space for maximal effectiveness and relief. Most other decompression units control targeted discs by controlling flexion angles in only one plane such as the DRX9000.
Our protocols for spinal decompression are so comprehensive and up-to-date with the latest research and technology that we are currently the only physical therapy facility on Long Island to offer the L-A-D-D-E-R program. LADDER is our acronym for Laser and Axial Decompression for Discs with Exercise and Rehabilitation. Our LADDER program will literally ascend you spinal condition to the next level toward recovery. At Hicksville Physical Therapy we use the same spinal decompression protocol that was used in a study that resulted in an astounding 86% success rate with decompression only. Combine this protocol with our Class IV laser, proper bracing and stabilization training, and hands-on manual techniques; you will now have an excellent formula for recovery.
Daniel Oest P.T.,M.P.T. works closely with numerous well known neurologists, neurosurgeons, spinal specializing orthopedists, and sports medicine physicians in rehabilitating pre and post-surgical spinal disorders. He has advanced experience in using the specialized McKenzie Extension Technique, Williams Flexion Technique, and the DonTigny Techniques to facilitate getting maximal patient recovery success. Daniel recently developed and owns the patent for a revolutionary device call “Correct-A-Back” that corrects pelvic and lower-back mal-alignments to alleviate back pain and it associated sciatica symptoms.
Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS) is the most comprehensive program available, allowing the safe delivery of this (previously hospital based) procedure in our office. DTS treatments are one of the most gentle and comfortable therapies available. Patients often report that they fall asleep during treatment sessions. The worlds' largest manufacturer of hospital based rehabilitation equipment, with over 58 years of experience, produces the Spinal Decompression Therapy system.
A DTS treatment is a non-invasive disc therapy with more than 50,000 patients being treated annually. DTS is a comprehensive program of the newest traction techniques with targeted "core" stabilization. This therapy affects the disc as directly as possible without surgery. In the majority of cases, patients experience long-term relief of their pain when they complete the entire program of treatments, which consists of 20 office visits in close succession. In fact, clinical results of this type of therapy have been effective in over 70-75% of patients treated. A gradual breakdown to the foundational support of your back is what puts undue stress on the discs and leads to pain and loss of function. The DTS system creates a controlled unloading of the vertebrae to decrease disc pressure, thus increasing blood and nutrient exchange. This exchange of fluids is something that the damaged disc desperately needs to help it heal, from the inside out.
The three phases of Spinal Decompression Therapy are; Treatment, Stabilization and Support. We typically transition from passive to active treatments as you respond. Most patients are released from treatment after eight weeks. The best advantage is that you are able to continue working during the entire treatment program, so there is no loss of income.
